We’re delighted to share some important news about Temple Emanu-El of Rochester: we’ve moved!
Temple Emanu-El has relocated from our long-time home in northeast Rochester to leased space at the Louis S. Wolk Jewish Community Center, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in Brighton. Because of current pandemic limitations and guidance, our congregation won’t physically gather in facilities at the JCC for the foreseeable future. This gives us time to set up our new space in the JCC building to meet our congregation’s needs.
We’ve chosen to relocate to Brighton for several reasons:
- Over time, many area Jewish families, including many of our own members, have migrated from Irondequoit to Brighton and the east side of Monroe County.
- We no longer need a building the size of our synagogue at St. Paul Blvd, and we received an attractive offer for the property. The new owner has great plans for the building, and we will invite the owner to discuss those plans at a later date.
- Moving to new space at the JCC gives us a convenient central location for our friends and member families, with improved visibility, parking and facilities.
Our congregation voted to approve the sale of our former building and the relocation to the JCC in late December.
We look forward to renewing ties and welcoming friends and members at our new home, once the pandemic becomes a thing of the past. Our website and Facebook page will provide updates on our virtual events, online Shabbat services, and other activities. Our new phone number is 585-461-2000, ext. 203. Our email remains firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit us online at emanuelrochester.org and facebook.com/emanuelrochester. We look forward to seeing you soon.
