Ongoing Temple Emanu-El Food and Clothing Drive
We’ll pick up!
Carl Wetzstein, Chair of our Tikkun Olam Team, writes: As Reform Jews, we participate actively in tikkun olam, “repair of the world.” Our social justice work is done in a variety of ways: education on the issues, advocacy for specific policies and legislation, and implementing our vision through direct action and service.
Our food and clothing drive continues. We deliver food to House of Mercy (285 Ormond St, Rochester, NY 14605) and Irondequoit Community Cupboard (4275 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14622), and clothing to Goodwill Industries and Salvation Army. Call Carl Wetzstein (266-6982) to arrange for a pick-up. If you don’t have food to donate, consider donating cash – we’ll use that to buy food. Send your check made out to “Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund” to Temple (1200 Edgewood Av, Rochester, NY 14618) and note “Food Drive” on the Memo line.

American Jewish World Service
If you would like to contribute to efforts addressing the pandemic outside the United States, consider a donation to American Jewish World Service, the leading Jewish organization working to fight poverty and pursue justice in the developing world through philanthropy and advocacy: www.ajws.org
American Red Cross
Those seeking to give something other than money can look to the American Red Cross. There is a severe blood shortage because of a high number of blood drive cancellations during the outbreak, (reference: The New York Times). Healthy donors are urged to give blood, platelets, or AB plasma. For more information, visit: redcrossblood.org
