2017-2018 Hebrew and Judaism  Classes at Temple Emanu-El

Temple Emanu-El is beginning a new round of adult courses this fall after the High Holidays.  All of the classes meet once a week at Temple Emanu-El, and students may sign up at any time. There is no cost for Temple Emanu-El members; non-members are asked to make a donation to the Temple.

Introduction to Prayer Book Hebrew. This course is the first step in a program of Hebrew learning for adults. By the end of the course, students will be able to read (sound out) Hebrew texts, and will have an understanding of key Hebrew phrases and grammatical ideas. We will use the text, Aleph Isn’t Tough – An Introduction to Hebrew for Adults, Book 1, by Linda Motzkin and Hara Person, Editor. Introduction to Prayer Book Hebrew will be held Sunday mornings at 9:00 am.

(Re)Introduction to Judaism. This year-long course taught by Rabbi Drorah Setel is an exploration of Judaism as an adult tradition and practice. It is intended both for those new to Judaism and those who would like a more contemporary and nuanced understanding of Jewish experience. Each class will combine historical, spiritual, and visual sources for study. You may join the class at any time, and it can be taken alone or along with the Prayer Book Hebrew course. Click here to see a detailed course outline.  (Re)Introduction to Judaism will be held Sunday mornings at 10:00 am.

For more information about either of these courses, please contact Rabbi Drorah Setel at rabbi@emanuelrochester.org

We hope you’ll join us!
