A Message From the Rabbinic Search Committee:
As you have heard, Rabbi Drorah will be leaving our community for England at the end of December. The board moved to convene a preliminary Rabbi Transition Committee to help guide our community through this next chapter. We recognize that times of transition can bring many different feelings and questions, and the committee is committed to guiding this process with care and communication. Our initial focus will be to draft a job description, submit a recommendation for an interim rabbi or rabbis to the board, and design a process for a permanent rabbi search.
We invite all members to share about their needs, fears, hopes, and experiences at one of our initial listening sessions:
In person: Sunday, Nov. 16, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM at the JCC
On Zoom: Monday, Nov. 17, 7:30–9:00 PM
A rabbi search process is typically several months long, and involves lots of community input. Contracting an interim rabbi will give us time to make sure we find a good fit and help us transition from Rabbi Drorah to someone new. We hope to have a permanent rabbi start in the summer of 2027, and an interim rabbi start this winter. That said, there will likely be a brief gap between contracts, and we’re arranging for leaders to help fill that time. If you’d like to lead a service, give a d’var torah, or share your talents during the transition, please reach out.
There will be more opportunities for member participation and feedback along the way. If you’re interested in investing your time by joining the committee, please contact the Rabbi Transition Committee Chair Nick Leykin at tritonceramics@gmail.com or 585.808.9172.
While we move forward with the transition process, we’re also preparing as a community to mark this important moment of parting with Rabbi Drorah. A farewell celebration is being planned for Hanukkah by the spiritual practices committee, with more details to follow soon.
